Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Speaking About Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Tearing the Country Apart

The star has revealed that she finds it inappropriate appropriate to voice opinions against the Trump presidency, concerned it could intensify divisive discussions and further divisions across the country.

‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Explains the Actress

Speaking with media, she reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was acting frantically in a panicked state. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, Hollywood stars fail to influence whatsoever on who people vote for.”

Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire tearing the nation apart.”

Shifting Views

Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about supporting conservative and liberal presidential nominees in past elections. Growing up with Republican parents in Kentucky, she voted for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election before joining the Democratic party and explaining she realized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was undermining her individual liberties as a female citizen.

Past Statements

Several years ago, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election would be “a catastrophic event” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. More recently, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I think she’s a strong contender and I know that she will make every effort to protect women’s health rights.”

Hollywood’s Stance

The star was aligned with many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a returning figure, but the limited influence public figures have over the electoral decisions was emphasized by Trump’s victory.

“Another four years seems distinct,” said the actress about his administration. “Because he stated his intentions. We understood his record for his first term. He was explicit. And that’s the option selected.”

New Release

Lawrence is highlighting her new film, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she plays a new mother who faces challenges with her emotional state in a remote area. During a media event for the film in Venice, Lawrence spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s horrifying. What’s occurring is equivalent to a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”

Broader Concerns

Lawrence added by saying that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discussions of U.S. political debates at present and how that is going to be commonplace to the younger generation today. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”

She attempted to refocus frustration about the issue to decision-makers rather than entertainers. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she said, in what many took to be a allusion to the then-recent pledge supported by more than 4,000 arts community members to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.

Personal Connections

The actor, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her part in her breakout movie, is attracting awards attention for her portrayal in the new film. Even though the director has denied the plot being understood as one of post-birth struggles and psychological distress, she said that she did relate to aspects of her film narrative after the birth of her new baby, soon after shooting ended.

“I felt anxiety about my child,” she explained, “envisioning every potential danger, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a treatment called Zurzuvae and I took it for 14 days and it made a difference.”

Career Moments

The actor also mentioned regarding the freeing requirement of shooting revealing sequences in the project while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.

“There’s a freedom,” she remarked, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Truly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
